Chinese Gold-splashed Bronze Tripod Censer 
Fei Yun Ju Cast Three-character Mark to base, Possibly Ming Dynasty

7 1/4 inches across

 

Of bulbous low shape with very slightly everted rim below two simple raised handles, supported on three short feet tapering to a rounded point, decorated all over with delightful asymmetric gold splashes, the mark exceedingly well cast and raised on a punched ground.

 

Provenance:
Estate of Mrs. George S. Franklin Jr. of Oyster Bay NY, descended from Nelson W. Aldrich (November 6, 1841 – April 16, 1915).
